Sept. 8-14 is National Suicide Prevention Week

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and National Suicide Prevention Week is Sept. 8-14, 2019. According to the American Association of Suicidology, there were 47,173 suicides in 2017, and suicide is the second leading cause of death for 15- to 34-year-olds.

A 2016 survey of more than 4,000 students attending 10 different community colleges across the nation found that half have a current or had a recent mental health condition, and conditions are untreated in students age 25 and younger (The Wisconsin Hope Lab March 2016 report).

If you are feeling hopeless, depressed and/or have thoughts of suicide, you are not alone. Please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or a local number at 480-784-1500 for 24/7 assistance – or dial 911.
