Volleyball Coach Poised for 500th Career Win

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 23, 2013) — Scottsdale Community College Head Volleyball Coach Regina Mannix could earn her 500th career victory as a coach when her squad faces Eastern Arizona College Tuesday, Sept. 24 at SCC’s North Gym.

The 7 p.m. match pits the Lady Artichokes (12-1) against the Gila Monsters in an ACCAC contest.

If Coach Mannix’s 500th win doesn’t come Tuesday, her team will have two other home games during the week to reach the milestone win.

Coach Mannix is in her 20th season as head coach at SCC and has coached two additional years there as an assistant coach. Her overall record as head coach is 499-205.

Among notable team accomplishments during her tenure are:

  • ACCAC titles in 2001, 2005
  • Region titles in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008
  • National appearances in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008
  • National runner-up in 2003
  • Academic Teams of the Year 7 times

Her individual coaching honors include:

  • ACCAC Coach of the Year 2001, 2003, 2006
  • American Volleyball Coaches Association Southwest Coach of the Year, 2003 and 2005
  • NJCAA District Coach of the Year 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008
  • Induction into the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008

Nineteen of her players have become NJCAA All-Americans, 48 were selected all conference, 16 all­ Region 1 and 3 players chosen as Player of the Year.
