Julie has pursued horses as a lifetime passion. Having competed in 4-H and Pony Club as a youngster, she continued to compete as an amateur in both Western and English Pleasure. Julie has ridden and been involved with horses for as long as she can remember. During her work career as an adult, Julie continued her pursuit as a recreational horseman. In 2000, Julie began taking classes at Scottsdale Community College. By 2005, Julie was working as a student teaching assistant in the Horsemanship and Training classes in the Equine Science program. She continued to work as a lab assistant in the re-instituted Equine Management class in the program in 2007. In Fall 2008, Julie was invited to join the Equine Science program as an adjunct faculty member teaching Principles of Equine Science. Julie owns and rides two of the rare Dales Ponies, as well as a Missouri Fox Trotter. She is a member of the Dales Pony Society of America, Inc., The Arizona Carriage Driving Society, and has served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Arizona Combined Driving Event for the past three years. She was previously the Equine Advisory Committee Chair.
Dave Belson is the founding president of the Arizona Reining Horse Association (AzRHA) which started in 1985. He served as the president for the first four years and has remained active in the organization since its inception. . Mr. Belson was inducted into the California Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2009, and into the Arizona Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2014. He has been an NRHA, ApHA, and Special AQHA judge for over 30 years. He has judged many major events in the USA,
Canada, Europe, Australia, Israel, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. Dave Belson is the owner/manager of the 5B Quarter Horse Ranch in Cave Creek, Arizona and has stood many successful stallions over the last 34 years. These stallions include Boomernic, Doc N Jose, Loomis Sun, and currently Gangster Chic! He still manages the ranch, raising numerous future reining horses each year. He is also working on a new magazine “PERFORMANCE HORSE CONNECTION” which made its debut January 2014. This new magazine features Reining, Roping and Working Cow Horse events and articles.
Pat comes from both a strong educational and horse background. She possesses experience in gymkana events, dressage, cross country, stadium jumping, western pleasure,hunter under saddle, and training AQHA youth and amateurs for all around type events. She continues to train young horses for show when she has time.

Jeannette Fish is Executive Director of the Maricopa County Farm Bureau, a non-profit organization of more than 10,000 farmers and friends of agriculture, working to promote and defend agricultural production in Maricopa County, which is approximately the size of the state of Vermont. Prior to moving to Arizona, she served as Director of Media Relations for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and before that she had a long career as a journalist, working in a variety of media outlets from large city daily newspapers to small city radio stations.
She grew up on a farm in western Washington state and first rode a horse on her grandfather’s ranch in Montana. She and her husband, Dean, are horse enthusiasts and at one time owned four horses and a mule. Yes, at the same time.
Jeannette works hard to teach adults and children about agriculture. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Foundation for Agricultural Literacy and the planning committee for Summer Agricultural Institute. She is an active volunteer during Agricultural Literacy Week and was instrumental in publication of the first children’s book about modern Arizona agriculture, “Arizona Agriculture: Bee’s Amazzzing Adventure”.
Kevin Flynn is a dedicated and loyal member of the Equestrian Community. Kevin and A.J. Schlatter Flynn, own & operate Celebrity Equine, LLC. Over the years, Celebrity Equine has represented “Horses Today” television show, elite equine bio-pulse therapeutic products, quality alfalfa, grass & oat feeds, superior supplements as well as upper level AA competitive show horses. Kevin & A.J. currently have a private hunter/jumper facility in Scottsdale, AZ where they both share a love and interest for all types of horses, disciplines & animals.Presently, Kevin resides as a Member of the Board for Hoof Beats with Heart Charity -Therapeutic Riding Program. He is also actively involved in the Scottsdale Arabian Show as a sponsor as well as an Exhibitor at Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show and various AA Hunter Jumper events in & out of Arizona.Kevin joined Precision Joint Solution as Director of Sales after establishing “Farm Sources International” into a nationally recognized equine feed company. He has also been invited to join the Team at “Ametza,” an International Feed Company located in California. They distribute Forage around the world in various formats. Kevin strives for clear communication, honesty and integrity in all of his business endeavors. Moni lives with her husband in Tonto Verde, AZ. She moved to Arizona 17 years ago from the Midwest. She has recently retired from a career in the commercial insurance business. During her career years she also owned several businesses in Minnesota. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Business. Moni spends her time pursuing her real passion, riding and learning about horses. This has brought her to Scottsdale Community College’s Equine Science Program. She loves trail riding and teaching horses good ground manners. She is a member of Rio Verde Horseman Association and the Rio Verde Saddle Club. As past president of the Rio Verde Saddle Club, she had the opportunity to work with several different breeds of horses and to ride many adventurous trails.
Taryl O’Shea has been the Executive Director for the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona (AHAA) for over 18 years. AHAA’s mission is the promotion of the Arabian horse on an international scale. Taryl oversees the day to day business and production of various horse related events, most notably the largest Arabian Horse Show in the world; the “Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show” which will celebrate its 60th anniversary in Scottsdale this year. Tarryl has managed and produced many equine events including, but not limited to, Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas, NV, Fall Festival Arabian Horse Show in Scottsdale, AZ, Arabian Horse Association Youth Nationals in Albuquerque, NM, Arabian Horse Association Sport Horse Nationals in Lexington, VA, Polish National Championships & Pride of Poland Auction at Janow, Podlaski, Poland, & the Egyptian Arabian Horse Show in Tomball, TX.

Ed O’ Brien
Cathleen is the owner and publisher of the Equine Resource Guide, which she founded with her daughter, Rachel, in 2006. The Equine Resource Guide is an annual horse publication that also provides an online source of local horse information and Equine E-News marketing services. Rachel is a lawyer in Minnesota, and the guide is a way for them to work together on their mutual passion, even though they now live far apart. Cathleen owns two horses in Desert Hills, and she enjoys trail riding in our beautiful state. She is a member of AzQHA and the Cave Creek Saddle Club, and served on the board of the Arizona Horse Council for 2 years.Cathleen is a retired educator who received her BA and MA from Oakland University in Michigan. She taught English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education, Spanish and Japanese to high school and college students during her career. Most recently, Cathleen worked for Thunderbird, the Global School of International Management in Glendale as Director of Academic and International Services. She administered overseas programs, academic advising, foreign student visas and student internships. Cathleen was also an active member of the scholarship committee and involved with assisting student clubs and organizations in the on-campus MBA program.
A University of Findlay, Ohio graduate, Mark Sheridan holds a Bachelor of Science in Equestrian Studies. Mark has over thirty years experience producing winning all-around show horses. He has trained and coached multiple Quarter Horse Reserve World Champions in both English and Western divisions.
Mark has been an AQHA, AAAA ranked, and NSBA Category One ranked judge since 1993. He has judged the AQHA World Show five times. The AQHA Youth World Show twice, the All American Quarter Horse Congress five times, the NSBA World Show, as well as the Australian, European, Canadian, Japan Championships, and NCAA and IHSA Collegiate Championships.
Mark is a Past President of the Arizona Quarter Horse Association, a member of the AQHA Professional Horseman’s Association, was awarded Arizona’s Most Valuable Professional Horseman in 2008, and is recognized on the University Of Findlay Wall Of Fame. He is an author of articles for numerous nationally published magazines, conducts clinics nationally and internationally, and has recently produced a three DVD series on achieving perfect lead changes. Dr. Lucian Spataro Jr. has a unique viewpoint: from atop a horse. He is an environmentalist, businessman, educator, and adventurer whose accomplishments are both local and international in scope. Dr. Spataro joined the Joe Foss Institute as its President & CEO in 2011, and is responsible for overseeing the Institute’s staff and daily operations.
Dr. Spataro is a noted researcher, educator and author with over 30 years of experience working in both education and the private sector. Prior to joining the Joe Foss Institute, Dr. Spataro served as Chief Operating Officer for Education 2020, an educational software and service provider. He has served as an educator and administrator in the United States and Internationally. he served as Academic Director and Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson and Vice Rector of Academic Affairs for the Universidadel Noroeste in Sonora, Mexico. Dr. Spataro earned a B.S. from University of Arizona in Business and Public Administration and an M.S. and PH.D. in Environmental Studies from Ohio University. In 1989, he embarked on a record-breaking coast-to-coast journey to raise awareness of rain forest protection, riding a team of Arabian horses from Los Angeles to Chesapeake Bay. This event is recounted in his award winning book, The Long Ride, published in 2011.
Kelsey Wells has been riding horses for eight years with a main focus in the all around events with AQHA and APHA. Some achievements are being a multiple top ten finisher at The Pinto World Show, American Quarter Horse Novice World Show, multiple world finalist, APHA and AQHA world show qualifier, as well as all around champion awards for the state with the Arizona Quarter Horse and Arizona Paint Horse club. She is a current student at Scottsdale Community College and working towards graduating with an Associates Degree in Equine Science and wanting to go into the equine industry focusing on equine reproduction as well as radiology.
Senior Instructor at the World Famous Arizona Cowboy College, Rocco is the Star of Six Seasons of Country Music Television’s Original Series Cowboy U and has been featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, the Doctor Oz Show and National Publications too numerous to mention. A Horse Trainer and Ranch Cowboy for the last twenty five years he is known for being able to, “Produce a horse you could to war on.” Also he has authored a book called: “Cowboy” The Ultimate Guide to Living Like a Great American Icon published by Harper Collins in 2010 about his take on the History of the American Cowboy. He now lives in a remote location with his three dogs Bryn, Hondo and Diesel.”The Cowboy knew his life had a purpose. It was a gift from God. To be Steward of the land, livestock and the people he loved.”
